Ten birds swooping in the sky,
And so many leaves that I couldn’t count them all.
On the way back we saw the black cat again.
Then we went home for tea.

Summer Numbers and Sea Voyagers are two of the poems in Rhymes for Annie Rose
Looking this morning at more paintings from Shirley’s visit to Colle Val D’Elsa near Sienna.
Clara continues; Mum would sit, a glass of Campari near at hand, with our Dad who was also always drawing. I think she was at her very happiest in these moments.
These paintings are from a visit Shirley made to Ravello in Italy in 1995. As Clara says it’s clear to see the influence of this trip on Enchantment in the Garden, which Shirley began the following year. #LookBehindTheScenes
These two paintings of Shirley’s were from a visit to Rome in 1982. #LookBehindTheScenes
Lucy and Tom want to swim right away, so they all put on their bathing suits and go into the sea, hand in hand. Lucy and Dad do some swimming. Tom likes being chased by the waves.
Lucy and atom at the Seaside
At last they’ve arrived! They walk down a rather long road carrying all the picnic things and bathing bags and buckets and spades. There’s a very special seasidey smell.
And there’s the sea! It’s much, much bigger than either Lucy or Tom had ever remembered.
One hot day Lucy and Tom and their Mum and Dad thought they would go to the seaside. Lucy is helping to pack up the picnic. There are sandwiches and hard-boiled eggs, apples, biscuits and a bottle of orange squash. There is also a lovely chocolate cake.
This week more than ever we could do with a trip to the beach, so where better to spend it than with Lucy & Tom at the Seaside.
