@churchartnature @todbooklady Dear Dan, there's nothing "bad" about it. The emblem of Downing College Cambridge is a griffin, so I've kept up a semi-obsession with them ever since!

Quentin Blake (a Downing man) creates the best griffins of all in my book! If I could muster £250, I could buy this one.

@StroudStory @BooksTeaFilms @AphraPell The Zodiac crabs in Medieval calendars would have been available. Some tended to look a bit like lobsters, but many did look (quite) like crabs.

If crabs were transported from the coast to Oxford, would they have "gone off" by the time they arrived? Whether by boat or road.
