The plants are also endangered: left, the Kinkaid’s lupine; center, MacFarlane's four o'clock; right, Gentner's fritillary

Watercolor and ink sketch of the zen garden at - one of my all-time favorite gardens. Check it out in any season, on Bainbridge Island.

Commission for a family member. 11 x 14, watercolor with a metallic gouache border. Sealife & ocean beach of Puget Sound.
That little otter was a real puzzle to draw for some reason, and I don't like how he came out but I can overlook that. Overall, I’m pretty proud of this one.

A happy harbor seal and some of his homies; Nereocystis luetkeana (bull kelp seaweed) and Chrysaora fuscescens (the West Coast sea nettle jellyfish).

This is the Song Mei temple in the Seattle Chinese Garden. We walk there often, and I thought the snow made it look particularly pretty this weekend.
This (and a bunch of my other drawings) can be purchased as a print in my new Etsy store!

Undoubtedly one of the best bugs, the praying mantis (Mantis religiosa). Very engrossing to draw!

The big bronze Dragon Carp at the Seattle Chinese garden, at sunset. He’s a beauty and is nearly 100 years old.
Ink and watercolor sketch.

Do you recognize this mossy bench? Hint: It was part of a WPA project in the 1930s.

A summer-coated snowshoe hare, often seen around Mt Rainier. He may be looking for a tasty thistle (also common in that area) to munch on. It’s tough to see here but the outer ring is bronze metallic gouache, so it’s kind of sparkly in person. Just a little though.

Last drawing of 2020. I hope next year brings us all a measure of peace, hope, and unity. Let’s try and find what we have in common. 💖
