My review of Belle, the latest from Mamoru Hosoda! An often gorgeous, at times quite enjoyable film that frustratingly doesn't add up to the sum of its parts, culminating in Hosoda's weakest feature effort.

Happy Birthday to Yoshikuki Tomino! Here are some mecha from his most iconic, best known works!
Mechtober Day 19: Calamity (Cleopat) | Giant Robo (Johnny Sokko)
Calamity was a copy of Giant Robo, so this is a completely different robot and I'm not lazy. Never seen Calamity in the OVA style, so figured this would be a slightly more interesting day-off piece.
Mechtober Day 11: YMS-15 Gyan (Unarmed) | Hello Kitty X Gundam
Cutting myself a bit of slack and counting this unarmed variant for Day 11. Had a ton of fun doing this one, really want to try some more Sanrio X Gundam stuff!
Mechtober Day 9: Pilaf Machine | Dragon Ball
One of a few mecha in Dragon Ball, and I really dig it! Really adore Toriyama's rounded, simplistic mechanical design.
Mechtober Day 7: Ideon | Space Runaway Ideon
Ideon: Be Invoked is my favorite Tomino work, building on ideas from Gundam and Zambot 3's conclusions to make a perfect finale. While the title robot isn't my favorite design, I have a lot of affection for its Guncannon DX look.
Mechtober Day 3: Black Ox
Always really loved Black Ox's design, especially as a counterpart to the more charmingly friend-shaped Tetsujin 28.
