Yes, this is a thing. It's called the "100 Day Kit". What really broke my heart was when the autistic muppet on Sesame Street was used to promote this thing. The sooner autism is no longer seen as some horrible thing people should fear the sooner these organizations will be gone.

So many organizations, professionals, and parents seem to believe that person-first language is the only way to address autistic people, when that's not true. Most autistic people don't like it and have pushed back against it. Autism isn't something we hold like a handbag.

It's Autism Awareness Month. Awareness is only step one, and acceptance isn't where we stop. There have been so many things that autistic people can and have added to society. Autism needs to stop being seen as pitiful, but instead appreciated. We are autistic! We are awesome!

My mind is a cavalcade of random information, most of which will never help me in day to day life.

It's amazing what people will say about autism when they don't think any autistic people are around, but when they're called out by an autistic person they'll try to back pedal so fast they could win the Tour de France in reverse and still fail at justifying their words.

So often now we're pushed to turn every hobby we have into something that can be monetized because so many of us just don't make enough money to survive. Hobbies should be used to make us happy, not stress us out when they don't pay the bills.

Whenever I do something that accidentally hurts the feelings of others I have a lot of issues when it comes to forgiving myself. I don't know if this is a behaviour learned from a past abusive relationship, or if I just really hate myself.

Have you hydrated yourself today? No? Then do so! While the myth about soda pop dehydrating you is false it's definitely better to drink something like water to hydrate you when you're thirsty, or have a dehydration related headache. Apparently this comic just turned into a PSA.

Golly gosh! It's almost like living in a society that doesn't accept you is hard or something!

I know that there are other reasons why we autistic people have difficult lives, but society certainly doesn't make it any easier.

I've had a lot of people tell me that I don't "look autistic" and I never have the heart to tell then that I'm really not comfortable with being told that because it can hold some pretty negative connotations.
