Marching into the weekend like Georges Scott's 'The Advance Guard' (1905) 🏇🏇

This watercolour shows two soldiers on horses trotting along a country road. On both sides of the road can be seen green grass with wild red flowers dotted around.

'The Greek Festival' ~ Simeon Solomon (1873).

This picture shows two figures striding forward. The woman on the left is wearing a dark pink dress with a white cloth draped around her arms and tied around her waist. On the right is a second figure wearing a dark blue dress.

'Reflections: China and Japan' ~ William Orpen (1902).

This is a virtuoso still life painting which demonstrates Orpen's facility at depicting texture and reflective surfaces with flair and skill, and with less emphasis placed on a coherent compositional arrangement.

Artist Spotlight 🔦 Paul Henry.

In 1910 Henry and his wife Grace made their first visit to Achill Island on the West Coast of Ireland. Enthralled by the rugged scenery they moved to Achill in 1912, remaining there until 1919 when they relocated to Dublin.

'Primulas' ~ Francis Edwards.

Across the lower part of this watercolour are pink and mauve flowers (primulas) spread out against brown stems and green leaves. The background is washed in blue, grey and pink.

Artist Spotlight 🔦 Louis le Brocquy.

Louis le Brocquy is today Ireland's most celebrated contemporary artist. Born In Dublin he studied chemistry and worked in his family's oil company before deciding to become a painter.

'Seated Figure and Carpet' ~ Francis Bacon (1971).

This is one of six unfinished paintings by Francis Bacon in the collection. These works span Bacon's career from the period of his first major breakthrough in the 1940s to the last years of his life.

'Birds in Autumn (57/75)' ~ Anne Yeats (1964).

This is a two colour planogaphic print on paper, depicting three white birds in flight. she had a touching naive expressionist style and was interested in representing domestic humanity.

Artist Spotlight 🔦 Thomas Rowlandson.

At the age of sixteen, Rowlandson lived and studied for a time in Paris. He later made frequent tours to the Continent. Rowlandson’s designs were usually done in outline with the reed-pen, and delicately washed with colour.
