"Fine. Whatever. I choose to believe you, all the while knowing that your
inevitable betrayal shall only make me more certain of life's pointlessness and cruelty." 5/6
You've got two fan-favourite characters stranded on another planet. How're you gonna bring them back into your story? Surely not by writing an eighty-page epic set out there?
"Intersectionality" is friggin' bonkers. 1/6
The strangely straight-laced Stiletto acts as our surrogate while we learn about the acid-scoured Melpomene bridge and Overshoot, its eccentric sentinel. Gradually, this dynamic shifts: as we learn more about Stiletto's past, we almost find ourselves in Overshoot's place. 3/5
Lio Convoy is probably one of Uprising's blandest POV characters, and his later appearances prove him to be far more compelling through other characters' eyes. His change of heart here is a little rushed- I wish this story had a little more room to breathe. 4/5
I'm always surprised by how little time Uprising actually spends inside the games. It's more interested in their periphery, in exploring what kind of society watches The Hunger Games and thinks "hey, neat, we should do that." 3/5
Jim Sorenson's "Broken Windshields" is probably the weakest of the prose stories: David Bishop wouldn't join him until the next, and FunPub was very much steering things. Still, it nails the tone of the universe and includes plenty of memorable images and moments. 2/5
I've been revisiting Beast Wars: Uprising recently- still the most criminally underrated Transformers story ever.
"Gone were such luminaries as Optimus Prime... malevolent visionaries like Megatron... This age belonged to the hacks, the Ratbats..." 1/5
A late addition to the issue was the Street Action Mini-Con Team (the only Armada team I still need to get, huh), which sadly didn't make it onto a trading card... I dropped the gradient shading on these for a more cartoony style.
Anyway, we've got a lot lined up for #3...
The Hasbro Heroes Sourcebook Extended issue #2 is out now! It's been a blast colouring @ikkadkarf's artwork... I've never had this much practice before, so I've learned a lot over the last couple of weeks! Here's Snapdragon, Iron Man and Darkstorm... https://t.co/MgpqOOz25y
