I also botched the face midway and had to repaint it, which was terrifying. In the end, the publisher was happy with the final image, even if I wasn't. #perfectionist
Back in 2006 I was painting Peter Pan for the "official" sequel. This was a challenge: Peter was my childhood hero so I wanted to render him afresh for a new generation. Unfortunately, a tight deadline and author approval constrained the final painting. Maybe next time...
Based on the questions regarding the cover design for “Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide”, I thought I’d share some of the ideas that were presented. The griffin was not my first choice as I was concerned it didn’t convey the fairy element as strongly as a pixie or sprite would.
