It is perfectly acceptable to create spacecraft that look the way you like.
It is not appropriate to aggrandize this aesthetic-without-understanding above the usual Star Wars wedges, space Gundams and Star Trek saucers.

It is also known as the 'cargo cult' approach to designing spacecraft.
Put together pieces of existing space hardware even if a closer look reveals that none of it would work together or make sense, making it similar to any other space fantasy but with another coat of paint. https://t.co/yQtY0TwWnB

Amos Tan brings us an exiting space battle inspired by the realistic combat simulator 'Children of a Dead Earth', so naturally it features radiators, nuclear rockets, sloped armor and lots of flares.

There are widespread fears about the risk of nuclear spacecraft and about how a launch accident involving one could contaminate continents or kill thousands.
But here's the thing.
This has already happened... at least four times.

The frost cycle as a heat engine:

3 trillion tons of CO2 are evaporated each year from the Martian North Pole and redeposited at a 5 km higher altitude at the South Pole. This takes 1.7 Zettajoules of energy, and implies a 4% work efficiency.

Design for superconducting homopolar motor/generators using HTS windings operating at 25,000 RPM:

They have astounding performance. 1500 kW/kg power density (including cooling and rotor case!) and 99.2% efficiency while operating at a mild 50 Kelvin.
