Saint Martial in Glory With Saint Peter and Saint Paul, by Tintoretto, from 1549 - this fantastic work is still in situ in the church of San Marzial in Venice - an amazing small building with masterpieces by Vassilacchi (L'Aliense), Passignano; Tintoretto, and Giulia Lama!
Christ Among the Doctors - another fabulous early Tintoretto that will be in Venice for the 'Young Tintoretto' exhibition celebrating his 500th anniversary in the Accademia from September 7th. Tickets and info here: https://t.co/jkkq1Z9Dl5
This JMW Turner view of the Ducal Palace and the Campanile is uncharacteristically sharply drawn- a tribute to Canaletto, whom Turner has painted in the foreground, working at an easel!
Portrait of Federico II Gonzaga, by Titian- now in the Prado. The dog symbolises faithfulness. What a great dog too!
This is really fabulous - Veronese's depiction of St Jerome in the Wilderness. He clutches the rock he uses to beat himself with while a particularly cat-like lion looks on.
Seriously, I really love the lion!
St Agatha visited in prison by Bill Murray... I mean, by St Peter.
This Veronese masterpiece was originally commissioned for a chapel on the island of Murano - nobody knows how such a minor location could afford a Veronese work. Currently on Show at NOMA in New Orleans. Wow!
The Conversion of St Paul - an early Tintoretto on show at the @museeluxembourg in Paris, where it is on loan from Washington. Once attributed to Andrea Schiavone, I love the riotous colours in this!
The torture of St Barbara - a detail from Lorenzo Lotto's frescoes of the Cappella Suardi near lake Iseo. In this, her parents look on - their dress is very telling - father is in traditional Turkish dress while her mother wears the hat of a Northern protestant!
A depiction of a ceremonial event in the Doge's Palace, by a follower of Francesco Guardi... I don't know why but I really like this!
Shades of Bellini and Giorgione in this painting, known as "The Gypsy Madonna", by a 21-year-old Titian. It's now in Vienna, along with several other masterpieces.
