#DYK that Joan Procter had a particular 'pet' Komodo dragon, named 'Sumbawa' @ZSLLondonZoo? More about Joan in the @Objectivity_Vid : https://t.co/8nSSSfzNFa #HERpers #LoveYourPetDay 🎥🦎
'Women in zoology & animal conservation: role models & trailblazers' will be my talk on Tuesday for @shefunistudents @wild_soc. Looking forward to highlighting the work of some women in the past who are very relevant now. #WomenInSTEM
Enjoyed this brilliant video of Robert (Bob) McCracken Peck's talk about Edward Lear, his natural history art & links to ZSL. Includes some items in the collections of #ZSLLibrary. I am spending part of the #weekend trying to catch up on podcasts: https://t.co/ibS4XtBme9 #SciArt
Narwhal in the 'Sea and its wonders' by Mary & Elizabeth Kirby, 1871. One of the #books featured in @ZSLLibrary blog on 'Women and the blue planet' on the contributions of women to the development of marine zoology: https://t.co/GutUNOdazU. #WomenInOceanScience #WomenInSTEM
I tweeted about Katharina Barbara Rösel von Rosenhof, 1741-1804, as a historical #HERper but she also coloured plates depicting #insects in "De natuurlyke historie der insecten, ...", [1764]. I showed these to a few @ZSLMarine Citizen Crane #volunteers. #SciArt #WomenInSTEM
Just realised there was a woman involved in the production of one of the most magnificent #herpetology #books - Katharina Barbara Rösel von Rosenhof, 1741-1804. She hand coloured the plates in her father’s 'Historia naturalis Ranarum..', 1753-8. Another historical #HERper
@W4BookFest so explored Bedford Park. Holmwood in Bedford Park was the home of Richard Bowdler Sharpe from 1879. He was ZSL #Librarian in 1867 & an ornithologist. Many of his 10 daughters worked as colourists for beautiful books about #birds & Emily Mary was an entomologist.
It is #InternationalChocolateDay so let's celebrate with a #chocolate themed print! Cocoa plant & insects by the remarkable Maria Merian - an engraving in her insects of Surinam with depictions of insects & their life cycles. @ZSLLibrary 's copy was published in 1726. #sciart
