Keen observers may have noticed that that first sword belonged to the Bright Knight and that second sword belonged to Kris the Necromancer. People always fuss that "Merblade" means "Sea Sword" but it's way too late to change it now.
Nobody ever appreciates when I do little specks of light coming through the trees. That's the kind of attention to detail you just don't get in weekly funny comics like Garfield. This joke, like many others, could definitely use some tweaking after seeing how people interpret it.
Turns out if you have a clean shaven character and then do a flashback to them having a little goatee, people get very chronologically confused. Beards can only grow longer in character design! Nobody shaves!!
This flashback really was just me spelling it out for everyone because they kept asking questions. Harpe doesn't have the Lake Monster's sword (aka Greg's Vane), she just has its soul which she wears as armor. Simple stuff!
Making fun of internet critics like the God of Darkness intended. If you need it spelled out for you, it's making fun of how people are critical of me for leaning on tropes and parodies, but are equally critical of me when I do original stuff like give goblins human skintones.
This episode was doing ridiculously well on /r/comics until a mod removed it because someone reported it as a repost, because someone else had put it on /r/sneks after I posted. I had a well placed link in the comments and was getting TONS of Instagram followers. Still bitter.
King Hilton had a hard life. A simple orphan boy, raised by a pair of wizards, set on a quest to find 5 ancient swords, and then God calls him on his magic wand and tells him he has to build a Kingdom for someone else to rule one day. Where's the respect?
Stabastian is pretty cute, but he didn't really get enough screentime to amass a loyal following like certain other cute characters who would appear in the series later. Maybe he'll get his own arc later, who can say.
People often misread this as each finger being currency to make a wish, which I only realized recently and it makes a lot of "I wish all my fingers back and then for my next wish..." comments a lot less confusing. Y'all will just blame me for not making it clear enough though.
His sitting barrel is being used to keep the cleaved table up. Just a little continuity gag for you. Some people struggled with the passage of time in this one, maybe in part because the pacing makes more sense if you read the last Entrails episode.
