Battle of Arkinholm 1455 Red Douglas defeat Black Douglas forces. The Black Douglas's Brother the Earl of Moray killed & beheaded. His other Brother the Earl of Ormonde was wounded but brought back to good health to also be beheaded. Heads were presented to King James II of Scots

Heraldry has meaning. After the Battle of Teba in 1330 (James Douglas throwing King Robert's heart). The Bruce heart badge was added to the Douglas heraldry to remember this event and scare their enemies because of their fame in combat.

When I worked as a Seasonal Custodian at Tantallon Castle 1981-89 we kept the grass as short as a bowling green. As the sun set I was able to trace the trench dip shadows where Cromwell's sappers dug towards the V-shaped Ravelin during the 1651 siege. #TantallonCastle

In 1443 the Red Douglas from Tantallon Castle burnt the lands around Fleming of Boghall Castle (because he was a Black Douglas vassal) Fleming replied by burning Lands beside Tantallon but was unhorsed & thrown in dungeon. Fleming was made Royal cup bearer & had to be set free

Great Bascinet from 1430 and overlap of replica. One of my favourites as its like the bascinet of the Wolf of Badenoch who is famous for burning Elgin Cathedral in 1390. He also played chess with the Devil before he died during a thunderstorm at Ruthven Castle. #GreatBascinet

Big fan of Hans Talhoffer (1459-ish) have a copy of his weaponised buckler & Messer (Big knife). Also made a prop copy of his diving suit Helm, covering a German jousting helm in leather with a hose pipe.

Nesbit Moor 1355. Ramsay draws Lord Dacre & Lord Grey from Norham into a trap. John Halyburton killed in the Scots charge but English defeated with prisoners taken. A French knight bought some prisoners & killed them at 'Slaughter Hill' in revenge for his Father's death in France
