Picts painted their bodies with woad. It had medicinal qualities as it numbed pain & congealed blood. So the idea of several hundred naked blue Picts attacking armour wearing Romans isn't mad as it had a psychological impact on the Romans & the Picts could easily run away.

Cistercian houses had a set Plan Dundrennan Abbey (Dumfries & Galloway) HS info board. Newbattle (Dalkeith) my watercolour 1991 & Alan Sorrell's reconstruction of Melrose. For some reason Melrose was a backwards Plan. Even Byland (Sorrell) in England followed the usual site Plan

Nothing like the smell of fresh bread. In medieval times they cut it length ways with the 'upper crust' going to the well to do Lords & the bottom half used as a plate & given to the poor. That's why rich folks today are called upper crust.
In 2004 made a Sow, siege engine (Shed on wheels) to used in Man at Arms weapons talks. A Sow was used at Dunbar Castle in 1338 at Hatton Castle in 1452 & Inverness Castle in 1491. Made it from scrap wood & Home Educator group from the Borders provided the wheels,old cable drums.
