Anyway. 1 & 2 use the first set, which is softer and sometimes that works, but it was not what i wanted. (Never mind, I forgot to colour lips on the first one.)

Happy coincidence, but I even can show why I find blocking colours helpful.

1 uses my original colour palette. It's lighter in skin tones. It wouldn't work was my what I determined.

Trying too hard can cause you to over focus on details, and miss the general look.

Have you tried blocking out colours before you shade, like this? I mostly do it for the undersketch for paintings, but can help as a starting point too.

Other than that, I went to redraw a screenshot from Heaven Official's Blessing as a warmup, but "draw" became "paint". I gave up on it at this stage because I think I'm getting sick again. Maybe I'll continue another day.
