in tybw, ichigo finally asks her to cover him instead of staying out of it. & it is in tybw, he is shown to have grown an understanding with his powers/himself and ichihime has grown to deeply understand each other. it is tybw, when he reaches heaven—salvation.

and this is why rukia’s drying of ichigo’s rain is a good thing for ih, it goes back to the legend (and furthered by rukia’s in story support for the 2). they both have what they think are one-sided sympathies, they understand each other, but at a distance. until, that is, tybw.

the “chain” is connecting the moon with heaven, material vs metaphysical, while also separating them. ichigo’s moon & orihime’s sky. and if the chain is the rain, their sorrows they both can understand, it brings us all the way back to ori’s poem. her poem about connecting hearts

but the thing is she doesnt even have to technically be the sun. simply the comparison would still make her vega! also “the next most important star in the sky after the sun”, would make a lot of sense since no one can or should ever replace your mom, but love can come close.

which might i add… orihime’s is the same golden color as ichigo’s in the manga 🧡🧡

while “vega” means a large plain, “typically a fertile and grassy one”, which again makes me think of orihime’s flower imagery that goes back to tanabata. (and there ichigo is again with a moon… we’ll get to that in a bit.)

if anyone’s curious, ichigo’s (in this scenario) means “flying eagle” which eagles commonly represent courage which i ofc immediately connect to the manga’s end. vega & altair are also grouped together with “deneb”, which its description made me think of uryuu.
