Sōichi Masui makes his entry aboard the series as storyboard artist, and manages to get in some really cool high-angle shots
He's a name to keep an eye on thoughout mid-'03 since he boards two really big episodes later on
Takashi Tomioka, after also making quite a debut himself alongside Andō, joins him again for this episode to deliver a brief sequence where Ed fends off some chimeras
Very nice drawings
Masahiro Andō returns, blessing us with another top-grade storyboard for our viewing pleasure
Far from the last we'll see of him too thankfully, truly a gift to this series
This episode marks Tamaki Nakatsu's first outing as storyboard artist and episode director on the series, and out the gate he delivers the most infinitely screencap-able episode since Shingo Kaneko's work on #03
Bold colors and shot compositions everywhere
Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 Rewatch: Episode #19
SB/ED: Tamaki Nakatsu
AD: Hideki Itō
Incredibly strong episode with an even stronger episode director debut
Kazuki Tsunoda again displays his chops as a storyboard artist, this time directing himself unlike his last effort on #06
FMA 2003's composite has its rough edges but it does atmospheric lighting very well, and Tsunoda really knows how to put that to good use
This episode marks Tomoki Kyōda's last storyboard for the series, and fortunately for us he departs this production on as high a note as he can
Really strong compositions to accentuate the moods of certain scenes, and even some well-utilized lens distortion effects as well
Animation isn't particularly spectacular but this one cut was kinda cool I guess
Kenji Yasuda was absolutely in his bag storyboarding this episode, lots of cool framing and layouts
The drab bluish-grays and constant rain in sharp contrast to #14's bright blue skies is also a nice directorial choice to bring out a more solemn mood
The second ED is another solo from Norimitsu Suzuki in the flesh and it's quite lovely, personally prefer it to the first actually
