The next biggest strength, consistent among all Doga Kobo episodes, is Takashi Mukōda's corrections as animation director, the expressions particularly excel at showing Ed's terror or just how unhinged Barry is
His work also tends to have a "softer" take on the designs, I think
This episode's biggest strength is by far Masaki Tachibana's storyboard, lots of great shot compositions
It's a real shame he only storyboards one more episode after this but that's just how it is sometimes
Great work both storyboard artists, lot of strong shot compositions and layouts here
Fortunately this won't be the last time we see Mizushima and Yasuda collaborate on storyboards
Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 Rewatch: Episode #07
SB: Seiji Mizushima, Kenji Yasuda
ED: Kenji Yasuda
AD: Kazumi Inadome
Easily the best episode since the first, doing one of the most infamous moments in the story justice
A few neat bits of animation here as well, including another appearance from Shinji Suetomi
Shinsaku Sasaki sticks around as a frequent presence for the first half of '03 and while he does some more interesting work in his later episodes that's not to say his storyboard here was weak in the slightest
Shingo Kaneko unfortunately sorta drops off the earth for a good chunk of the series' run after this episode before coming back close to the last act, but he makes a spectacular impression with this episode, masterful storyboarding throughout
Hiroki Kanno serves as the animation director of this episode and some of his corrections look eerily similar to the designs he'll go on to do for Brotherhood years later
Note the rounder face shape in particular
This episode is positively drenched in color all over, love the use of warm tones which suits the subject matter this episode's plot tackles, that of course being taking down a phony religion
