A Quiet Place (2018, #JohnKrasinski)
★★★★
Incredibly tense horror thriller as the Abbotts (Krasinski #EmilyBlunt #MillicentSimmonds #NoahJupe) try to evade aliens by keeping v. quiet. Plenty of 'was not expecting that...' & also suspenseful 'was waiting for that...' moments.
Amulet (2020, #RomolaGarai)
★★★
A nun (#ImeldaStaunton) gets homeless ex-soldier (Alec Secareanu) haunted by his past a live-in job doing up Magda's (Carla Juri) rundown home. She appears to be caring for her violent/sick mother. A stylish, if somewhat slow-paced, Brit horror.
#WendellandWild (2022, #HenrySelick)
★★★
Kat (Lyric Ross) lives with the guilt that she caused her parents' death. W&W are demons who exploit this for their own gain. But there are greater villains in this expertly crafted, if somewhat long, horror comedy #stopmotionanimation.
Romeo & Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss (2006, Phil Nibbelink)
William Shakespeare's R&J would seem curious source material for an animated makeover for young audiences. Some original lines used + bad jokes/puns, popular culture refs & songs. But don't worry it has a happy ending!
Kiss of the Damned (2012, Xan Cassavetes)
Visually striking & sensual vampire film, with an unsettling score by Steven Hufsteter.
A writer (Milo Ventimiglia) falls for vampire Djuna (Joséphine de La Baume), their new romance spoilt by the arrival of her sister (Roxane Mesquida).
