Momotaro is a hero of Japanese folklore. He was found by a childless couple, inside a peach, floating down a river. He grew up and embarked on a quest, defeating a band of demons with the help of a talking dog, a monkey and a pheasant.

Oiwa is a Japanese ghost, the vengeful spirit of a young woman betrayed by her husband. He disfigured her face in an attempt to get rid of her so he could marry a younger woman. She cursed the pair on her death & returned to haunt all who had betrayed her.

The Greek goddess and witch Circe was the daughter of the sun god Helios and the nymph Perse. She was able to transform men into pigs and in one version of myth she bore Odysseus a son who later accidentally killed him.
