It's something why Batman & the Outsiders was basically the full swan song for the Orphan identity. With writer Bryan Edward Hill subverting the cliché Shiva/Cass fight into mother/daughter uniting it makes the Orphan identity more hypocritical.
But for all the "OYL" done to Barbara the character grew into something more. Something greater than she was as Batgirl. She became Oracle.
@XiranJayZhao Ever since Tec Rebirth teased it (but instead went with the cliche) Batman & the Outsiders delivered it, and now I kind of want it to stay like this period between mother and daughter.
I wanted to wish a happy birthday to @bryanedwardhill. His insight, his geekiness over Michael Mann films, and for twist subversion giving us actual Shiva/Cass mother/daughter moments that add a whole new dimension between the two.
Ahsoka, Bo Katan, Aphra, Boba, Chopper, Dooku, Maul, Kir Kanos, Carnor Jax, and Ezra are up there for me too. But these four? Yeah.. these are the top for me. https://t.co/CWcTwCN9c2
So please pick up DC: Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Collection. But only that. For there's a bonus comic I think we should pick up as well Batman: Urban Legends #3. For a Lady Shiva solo story (also To draw-young Jason is a bonus along with Outsiders in this).
It's these reasons why not even a full preview still has me hyped for these stories. These are creators who know the character. In and out. Just looking or thinking about their art alone + Cass has me hype and so should you.
Between the time period of 2011 and 2015 Nguyen really drew A LOT of Cass (and Steph) during the "toxic" time period DC itself turned its back on the characters.
It almost feels like sweet satisfaction to see him getting a story with Damian/Cass/Colin Wilkes.
But here's the thing. Nguyen also has never drawn Cass as Batgirl in an official DC Comic. He's drawn her numerous times as Black Bat in Gates of Gotham (both the covers and #4) and Li'l Gotham. This will be his first OFFICIAL time too.
