I have to say, out of the 200+ side-scrollers I've played for the book, Kurosawa from AvP is definitely one of my favourite playable characters :D

Gaia Crusaders (Arcade, 1999) is another hidden gem of a side-scrolling beat-em-up that deserves a second chance at a western fan base. It's got a slick combo system, stunning animation and a killer soundtrack. https://t.co/3fLGrXQsAp

Give it a listen and check out these screens

Back on the horse after a few weeks off and writing features for my side-scrolling beat-em-up book. Tonight's subject is Gaia Crusaders; an arcade brawler from 1999.

It's about fighters trying to save Earth from Satan himself.

Look at this utterly amazing intro text:

Here are their fine, fine works. Show them some love if you dig their art 👍

Oriental Legend (Arcade, 1997) is based on the Chinese novel 'Journey to the West.' It's got slick animation, bright graphics, varied characters, and an inventory system. Some of the bosses and magic specials are just plain insane.

As well as my game book, I’m working with on a 140-page graphic novel called BPM: Beatdowns Per Minute. It’s a tribute to side-scrolling beat em ups set in 1992, about a pair of cops taking on a crime syndicate :D

First 4 pages here!

Tonight I've been playing 64th Street: A Detective Story for my scrolling beat-em-up book. This one is by Jaleco, and came before it started the Rushing Beat trilogy on SNES.

It has some genuinely hilarious speech samples and a neat background throw mechanic.

Step into a world of neon drenched cyberpunk carnage with Killtopia. It’s our award-winning comic series about bounty hunters waging war in future Japan.

You can grab volumes and from our publisher now:
