Presenting the first Killtopia: Volume Kickstarter guest print, by the incredible

We’re dubbing this one “Power Couple” as it shows Shinji and his ex Blaze ready for battle in the virtual dark net.

Stay tuned for more Killtopia updates soon!

Arabian Fight (Arcade, 1992). Running on Sega's System 32 hardware, the brawler uses Yu Suzuki's Super Scaler tech to pull off neat depth of field trickery. It also plays anime movie sequences directly over the game when using magic specials - a similar art style to Road Avenger.

Just finished my write up of Hook by Irem (Arcade, 1992). It's a tie in to the Robin Williams movie and it's surprisingly great. Neat environmental traps you can use on enemies, superb sprites, great combat, nice challenge. Seek it out folks!

We have 4 incredible guest artists doing prints and a variant cover for the Killtopia Kickstarter campaign. Reveals coming a bit later, but they’re brilliant 👍

Here’s some of our previous guest pieces by Frank Quitely, Tula Lotay, Darick Roberson and Laurie Greasley.

Shadow Force (1991, Arcade) This is confidently one of the best scrolling beat-em-ups I've ever played, and I hadn't heard of it before writing my book. It has a Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow soul-steal mechanic where you can morph into enemies and use their attacks. Inspired!

Today's game research for my side-scrolling beat-em-up book: It's Ninja Clowns, a weird arcade game from developer Strata. They're not very ninja-ey, the visuals are decent and the game repeats the same three environments for most of the duration. Hmm...

The King of Dragons (Arcade, 1991)

Capcom's closest answer to the Golden Axe format. Simple, but fun enough.

The Ninja Kids (arcade)

A really fun brawler set in a world where everyone resembles a muppet. I hadn't heard of it before researching the book :D

Vessels is now completed and off to print. Our first comic of 2020 will be making its way to Kickstarter backers soon :)

Aside from my beat-em-up book, I also write comics, including the award-winning cyberpunk series Killtopia. It’s about a salvage hunter and his robot sidekick fleeing contract killers while trying to cure a nano plague that’s hit Neo Tokyo. Volume is on Kickstarter soon!
