Yesterday I posted the pyromancer Chandra, now here are her parents. Pia and Kiran Nalaar from the Magic Origins set.
Elspeth taking on her “Worst Fears.” I wouldn’t be surprised if most hadn’t picked out the popular planeswalker at the center of this maelstrom. Also, attached is the card’s pencil sketch with a digital wash of grays added.
Here are a few unused sketches for Garruk Relentless/ Garruk, Veil Cursed.

Tireless Tracker. I’d like to say I go all out and buy numerous expensive props when shooting references for an illustration, but I don’t. A Wiffle ball bat is my favorite prop of choice!
In the reference you can see a sketch printout in the grass in front of me.

One of Magic’s first comic book heroes, Dack Fayden. I had the privilege of working on Dack's concept art, illustrating his card in Conspiracy and a variant of the first comic cover.

I’ve had the opportunity to design younger versions of six of the planeswalkers—preteen Chandra is definitely my favorite!!

Do any parents recognize the geometry toy that inspired the art for this card? DREAMSTONE HEDRON from the Rise of the Eldrazi set.

This is the final art for Nahiri the Lithomancer as well as a painted sketch of her. 7 years ago while waiting for the sketches to be reviewed, I painted one in oils (7x13 in). I knew it wasn’t going to work for a walker card but I decided to paint it for myself anyways.

After I handed in the sketch for ASH ZEALOT, I had to remove the face paint and stringy hair. It looked too much like the Gruul clan from the same set.
