A favourite few weeks now along the Devils burn, Newcastle Nuns moor, as April turns into May. First Orange tip seen and Chiffchaffs singing all around😀 Have a great long weekend all 👍

Beautiful indeed Emma, Stewart instils a “life” in the bird that I always strive for, so well observed. Here’s one from last year I never posted- spoiled in any event by a watercolour “bloom” in the background- although does look a bit like clouds ! Great work Stew 👍

Early morning look on the Newcastle moors for one of the true harbingers of Spring, the Wheatear, (w/colour sketch) just a few days too early I think, no Chiffchaff in either, a lone Fieldfare & few Redwing still about ( sure the Redwing were singing!)? Have a good night all 👍

Not a lot to report bird-wise this weekend, a distant glimpse though of an Otter at Big waters nature reserve, which I have only seen once before, watercolour sketch. Have a good night and week ahead all 👍

Still off work so time for the oils😊Great Northern diver in a rock pool started today (on board). A bit landlocked here so not seen much of this bird, a peek at the excellent BTO id videos helped, not sure if I’ve captured it ok. I love trying to capture water & reflections 👍

A nice walk on the Newcastle moors, although unseasonably mild (flowering dandelion)! a single beautiful Golden Plover eyeing me warily, w/colour sketch. A legacy of the storm was a massive garden wall collapse into the devil’s burn, maybe 15 ton, a shame for household & burn😕

Quite a few birds singing today, the Robin a particular source of hope, singing from the damp, spent vegetation in the weak warmth of the winter sun, watercolour sketch. Have a great weekend all 👍

Black grouse art today, sadly mostly absent on Northumberland moors, in part due to mismanagement for driven grouse shooting. Allowing scrub and heathland to develop would favour these & other birds, rather than the sterile monoculture we have today, and be better for the climate

A dashing Merlin on the Northumberland moors, scarce these days due to moorland mismanagement but hopefully change is coming. Have a good night all 👍

A great admirer of Gulls, never really painted them so had a go at a Lesser Black back. They are phenomenal refuse collectors, reminded of the time outside a Sunderland chip shop (don’t ask😄) when one scoffed a 8 x 2 inch Jumbo sausage, in one go ! 😄😄Have a great night all👍
