this is an interesting case of how to read tone as we go forward -- I think it's p obvious the "60yo" line is supposed to be a joke, as in, she older, here, but given that she's identified as 70 later when Peter's in his mid-20s, I think it's also fair to take it at face value.

There is something really great about how harsh of a critic Peter is of himself in the early days. Criticizing himself for not quitting Spider-Man not because being Spider-Man is a recognized calling but because he views himself as "too conceited."

anyway this is apparently the first appearance of Ned Leeds. I loathe him.

It is interesting how early on Flash is put in the position as someone who wants to be saved by Spider-Man, even though it will be decades before it's established that Flash is genuinely an abused child looking up to Spider-Man as this pinnacle of heroism.

I always think this is such an interesting scene bc in spite of the fact that Flash is still Peter's "rival" at the time, none of his thoughts here are for himself. He plans to give Spider-Man the credit for his exploits and, when he's saved, he assumes Spider-Man did it.
