It's such a great detail that Peter never actually puts his shoes back on -- he's just banking on no one looking down. And poor Betty weeping into her lace handkerchief over boy problems, meanwhile Johnny is getting suffocated by a napkin ghost.
Johnny's role in this arc is really great -- it's important to note at this point in time neither he nor Peter would call each other friends. But Johnny's perceptive enough about Spider-Man that he immediately realizes he's in trouble and he's WORRIED about him.
