Chronicles of Light and Dark is without a doubt my favourite set in Rivals: one characterized by the dualism of good and evil, Anlucia and Zoma acting as the perfect embodiment of this concept! How cool it is to see these two Dragon Quest heavy hitters, side by side? 💖
The Builder hero card, one of the most meta-defining in Rivals, had but one fault: at the time of its debut, it only featured the male version of the character. However, July 2020 marked the release of its alternate art, this time featuring both Builders having fun with Malroth!
Cool trivia today, it's about... Nergel, my beloved! In one of their Rivals artworks, the Ruler of the Underworld has a five of a kind, the strongest poker hand, based on the number 9. This number can be read as く, homophone of 苦 meaning pain and suffering! Prepare for it! 😈
The guy every party needs! The Prince of Cannock performed miracles in Rivals as one of the most versatile hero cards available, mainly due to his ability to access multiple skills: one of them, Kamikazee, would turn him into the signature green coffin waiting to be revived! ⚰️
One aspect of Rivals I always loved is the interaction between characters: they even had different voice lines depending on their interlocutor! Crows and Raguas, two characters with the power of foresight, would comment on the other being able to see the outcome of the match 🔍
@Snake_RIVER_90 The first one is the base artwork for Eight's hero card, one that was undoubtedly among the very best utility-wise! Slime knight maybe not so much, but still very cute 💖 (and you are indeed correct on its effect!)
Eight was quite the interesting hero card! One of the very first three to debut in Rivals and an invaluable tool for tension-based strategies such as the almighty Turbo Psaro... Not to mention it featured one specific artwork too powerful for us mere humans. Munchie says hello!
What really made this deck so strong in the grind game though, was undoubtedly the coup de grâce exclusive to little Malroth: a unique skill that could either damage enemies or heal yourself, and grew stronger each time you would choose to rely on the power of friendship!
A long overdue post, it's about time we finally let Young Malroth make a bit of a ruckus! And he sure did back in his Rivals days, when his hero card was the key piece of a fairly popular Fortune Teller strategy: the Even Malroth deck, capable of outgrinding any kind of opponent!
If music be the food of love, play on 🎵
Ah, Song of Salvation, the epitome of a power play in the Rivals early metagame: its revival effect was, in fact, very similar to what the OG version of Serena offered and it was not uncommon to see both in the same deck!
