Oisin (pronounced Ush-een, meaning 'fawn') was considered the greatest poet of Ireland. Son of warrior Finn MacCool and Sadhbh (who was cursed to live as a deer), he was a demigod who traveled to Tir na nÓg with Niamh of the Golden Hair and stayed for 300 years!

The Alp-Luachra or Joint-Eater is a type of fairy that crawls down a person's mouth and consumes half of their food. The trick is to eat salted beef and lie near a stream with the mouth open so the thirsty newt-like fairy will leave the body.

In Irish mythology, Tír na nÓg (Land of the Young) is the Celtic otherworld where inhabitants never age. Niamh falls in love with Oisín and brings him there. They live in peace for 3 years but Oisín gets homesick and returns home only to find 300 years had passed.

Irish hero Oisín's stay in Tir na nÓg is similar to Japanese hero Urashima Tarō's stay in the Dragon Palace. They return home to realise hundreds of years have passed. Oisín ages & dies after falling off his horse & Urashima Tarō opens a forbidden box and ages.
