I’m delighted to say I did Translation QA for GKIDS on Goodbye, Don Glees! Atsuko Ishizuka’s film is a beautifully animated and emotional coming-of-age story that genuinely depicts the friendships of teen boys. It is equally heartwrenching and uplifting. Go see it in theaters!
In the subs for Made in Abyss S2, I'm replicating the strange the way the Hollow language is represented w/ a mix of hiragana and katakana (in the manga, script, CC JP subs) with caps and lowercase.
Good thing へ (hiragana) and ヘ (katakana) look nothing alike. 🥴 #AmTranslating
I was browsing through a Zanerobe sale and got inspired by Eiko from Ya Boy Kongming to pick up this 70%-off track crew sweat 🤣 #paripikoumei
I’m delighted to say I did Translation QA for GKIDS on Pompo the Cinephile! It is an excellent film that deals with the trials, tribulations, sacrifices, and joy of being a creator and putting your heart and soul into a creative work. Go see it in theaters!
In the Japanese subs for the live-action Cowboy Bebop, Spike's iconic catchphrase of "Whatever happens, happens" was translated as "It's already done now" (過ぎたことだ), which works in context but misses a key call-back. The JP DUB *does* use なるようになるさ, as the anime did.
I’m thrilled to say I translated episode 1 for GKIDS’ release of Future Boy Conan (1978), a delightful show and industry landmark that's being brought to North America for the first time. Translating the solo directorial debut of the legendary Hayao Miyazaki is a dream come true!
I’m delighted to say I did Additional Translation for GKIDS on The Deer King! It's a gorgeously animated high-fantasy epic directed by Masashi Ando & Masayuki Miyaji. As a father myself, I found the beautiful father-daughter relationship between Van and Yuna especially touching.
As we translators say, IADOTC (it all depends on the context).
そうきたか!can mean either essentially なるほど or まさか depending on if the person saying it is reacting to something they see as making perfect sense or if they are taken aback. #AmTranslating #nihongo
One of my dreams when I started translating anime was to work on a Makoto Shinkai film, and I’m delighted to say I was given the opportunity to do additional translation for Weathering With You! I hope people are pleased with the English subtitles for this fantastic film.
