One of the drawings I made today. Which is probably pretty weird out of context.
When I visit with kids, I usually reveal my deep dark secret: that I, a so-called professional illustrator, can only draw four things: basic shapes, simple lines, letters, and numbers. But that’s all you need! This drawing here was done using nothing but variations on a U-shape.
I’m SUPER EXCITED to share that I’ve now got my very own store, thanks to the awesome people at @customink. There, I’ll be selling my T-shirts, totes & more. Check it out now, and make sure to check back — I’ll be regularly adding new products and designs! https://t.co/iAXVTuxIyR
Here’s a sneak peek inside the Hunger Heroes’s Hovercraft (the outside of which resembles a giant taco). These pages are from Missed Meal Mayhem, the first book in my Hunger Heroes graphic novel series, which is out 10/26 but is available for preorder now wherever books are sold!
Reading speed doesn’t need to matter. You don’t need to worry about how many books you finish in any given amount of time. If focusing on that stuff doesn’t enrich your reading life and your experience with books — throw it out the window!
Some more recent lettering I did for my next Hunger Heroes graphic novel. This one will be out next year!
Illustrator @doublewhoop recently had to do a quick-draw at an illustration event. The prompt was “hug.” She pulled up this picture I’d recently posted of my daughter and me watching the rain and made the below. I just love it, so wanted to share. Thank you, Rachel! Made my day!
I develop a somewhat different visual vocabulary/artistic approach for every book project of mine. I’m not sure why. It just makes sense to me to do it that way. And even though they’re all different, they’re all related and fit neatly together in my mind. (1/3)
