Looks like they're not PRECISE reproductions, which I'd thought they might be, but I think there's some pretty clear influence
In light of recent doxxings & leaks of sensitive personal information on Twitter, I have decided to protect myself by preemptively leaking my own nudes.
Second year, they let me start painting, the model half the day, plaster casts the second half. In monochrome, then in a limited palette. We hired extra models on the weekends for a little extra drawing time.

Note that in his portrait drawings, which are intended to stand alone (these aren't studies--he continued doing these on commission after retiring as a portrait painter), we may see highlights (picked out afterwards with an eraser), but we don't see that same outlining of them.
It's strange painting a figure this small up to a fairly high level of finish. You could pretty much cover his face with your thumb. One shot for actual proportion, one at an angle to reduce glare. Photographing oil paintings is hard -_-
I was, immodest as it sounds, expecting this show to do pretty well, and it looks like it's finally getting around to it. To be fair, opening at the start of March probably didn't do it any favors.
Marble is porous and stainable, coating of sculptures with untinted wax for protection goes way back. As does encaustic painting; nothing much is preserved from classical easel painting, save for the fayum mummy portraits.
