And finally in 2008, Atlus's own variant of Gradriel would show up in Etrian odyssey II. They developed Princess Crown after the original company imploded, so I guess this counts as coming full circle.
In 2007, Vanillaware created Princess Crown's spiritual successor in Odin Sphere, with Gradriel carrying traces of her. No evil version this time, unless you turn to fanart.
2004's Fate Stay Night had Saber, though she also gets a lot of comparisons to Agrias. Still, that hairdo and obligatory dark version.
I think Saber variants count as a mass produced industry of their own now.
2002's La Pucelle had Princess Eclair, complete with a skimpier dark version.
In 2000, Capcom made Gaia Master with Princess Tiara, better known here as "Who is this I keep getting in the Kinu figurine collection?" Her transformed mode blended both versions of Gradriel.
After making Princess Crown in 1997, the original company and team collapsed and George Kamitani fell on hard times for years, living off bread crust.
Which sounds nuts, especially since Gradriel was one of those design archetypes that caught on.
@bulius @Richmond_Lee I guess Gully's an original blend and arguably an archetype in herself. The end product of '97~'98's collective urge to have more girls smash things with bulky gloves.
@Richmond_Lee And most protagonists are big ol' references to something, like Red Monika being Bloodberry...
@Richmond_Lee I got a question.
Since you know a lot about influences, and how Garrison in Battle Chasers is a big reference to Gara from Bastard, down to his opening sword...
