When travelling with my birder friends, I can't spend much time with sketching in the field. I would like to develop a very quick and loose style, so I'm doing some practicing these days. First some Elephant sketches, each done in 10-15 mins after photos found on the internet.
Another Plover, Kentish in juvenile plumage. Watercolour and bodycolour on paper.
And here's an introduced tree species, the Russian Olive (Eleagnus angustifolia). Watercolour and bodycolour on paper.
My sons found a dead Whitethroat on our terrace. Visiting ringing camps clearly had an impact on them, as they IDd it as a Sylvia warbler.
The Little Owl stays around, Here's a sketch from yesterday. Enjoying some afternoon sun.
Curl-crested Manucode, displaying male. Manucodes are less extravagant Bird of Paradise species. Males and females are similar.
Water Buffalo illustration. Watercolour and bodycolour on paper. Once I was chased by such a beast on Hortobágy. It was frightening.
Bechstein's and Lesser Mouse-eared Bats (watercolour and bodycolour on paper).
