Here is a pair of Dabchicks or Little grebe, Tachybaptus ruficollis.

They bob underwater when disturbed and pop up at some distance, so can be hard to see.

The seeds have silky pappas and create a froth of flying seeds in autumn

This is a water rail surrounded by tiny toadlets.

These beautiful birds are quite rare and I'm yet to see one in the wild.

This the the Rowan, or Mountain ash Sign is acuparia.

The frothy white blossoms on this have just gone over, and it'll be late autumn before we see the glowing orange berries.

One of my favourite trees.

My sister Emily Harper teaches reception in London and has been videoing tadpoles turning to frogs (released back to the wild yesterday), and their class pet the giant land snail Mr Lucy. She's entirely dedicated to her kids; wish I'd had a teacher like her.
