After retweeting some paintings by Hungarian artist Bela Czene the other day, I've become a little obsessed with her work.
It's my friend Sam's 50th birthday today. How I wish I could go down to Whitstable to see her & give her a big hug. She's the best friend anyone could wish for. Though she's not officially on Twitter but I know she'll see this. xxx
@LucyMangan We have cosy, cockle-warming winter images coming out of our ears @Mary_Evans but I have a particular soft spot for Margaret Tarrant's snowy scenes from The Medici Society.
Because so many of Muriel Dawson's (1897-1974) pictures were for magazine covers, they do tend to follow a seasonal drift. I love these four autumn examples. We've loads more @Mary_Evans
10 yr old going through a tough time at the moment but just wanted to share this watercolour she did of our fish tank. We’re proud of the beautiful pictures she produces.
Giving 2 @TheWFA talks this week.Heath Robinson's WW1 cartoons on Thurs at Petts Wood & Fortunino Matania in York on Saturday. For extra promo oomph, here's a pic of the newest Matania WW1 book by Jim Davies from @TommiesGuides with long intro by me & WHR from @TheHistoryPress .
A set of skiing postcards by Carlo Pellegrini (1866-1937) from 1907, a time when winter sports were really beginning to take off. Just added to the @Mary_Evans from the Grenville Collins Postcard Collection.
Just catching up @BBCRadio4 Front Row piece on Norman Cornish, 1 of my absolute FAVOURITE artists, from my neck of the woods. Thanks to my pal Sam for alerting me to this otherwise I would have missed it. Looking forward to getting up to Barney to see exhibition @TheBowesMuseum
These, from around 1940, and taken from the Peter & Dawn Cope Collection @Mary_Evans are so delightful, and make me want to invite my chums round for lemonade & cake NOW #party
