Thinking about you, @Blackmudpuppy. In Warren Fahy's novel "Fragment," an ecosystem based on stomatopods threatens the world. I liked the "creature building." Including a sentient descent of mantis shrimp!
I have been invited to speak at the World Microbe Forum in June about my own interactions with the late great Esther Lederberg so long ago. Not a research or education talk, but I am so honored to have been invited. Even via Zoom remotes!! Someday, I will get to travel again.
I tip my hat, literally, to @neilhimself for mentioning the great Robert Sheckley's fiction which mixed heart, humor, and chills in equal measure. When I was a boy, I wanted to be a scientist. My family didn't understand. So Sheckley's great story, "The Accountant" resonated.
H.P. Lovecraft died on this day a lot of years ago. I hope he had no afterlife, at all, as he expected. @HPPodcraft @hplhs
I think it sad but understandable that there is no tardigrade species named after me. @tardigradopedia
@CoquiTalksTrash @surt_lab I have never had a slice of pizza in NYC. Or New Haven. Or in any religious center worshipping the great god Pizza. I have never folded over a slice. And I prefer to eat pizza with a knife and fork. So I keep my heathen ways to myself, and wish the followers of Pizza well.
Yesterday was #DarwinDay. I try to teach my students that “The Hand of Darwin is on all that lives.” Rachael Webster drew me this cartoon, and I love it. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology
