Gonna reply with the coloured version here as well, since a surprising amount of people seemed to like this. Thanks!
Gonna try add some other characters later. Suggestions welcome.
East and West.
Now in colour!
Still might add some other characters later on.
Trying characters that never appeared in a particular style might be fun!
While editing the next episode I discovered that Dry Bones has little to no 2D classic Mario art work! The only 2 are terrible quality.
But I need him for the episode so I replicated the official style as best I could. Also made some other Mario art like this for the episode too!
Some of the art created for this episode!
The Tom and Jerry parody sorta just happened... I almost cut it!
The Wind Waker inspired intro was the reason behind the latest delay. It kept being demonetised by Youtube every time I tested uploading.
I like japanese Sonic too! But they're portrayed very differently.
Japan is cool without trying and doesn't really care.
West is cool without trying but god damn does he want you to know it.
Japan: Yo! 3rd game is out.
West: "THIRD GAME IS HERE! YOU COOL ENOUGH TO PLAY IT PUNK?!
I actually have a bit of a soft spot for early western Sonic art
Yeah he's a little shiny and bent. He also seems to have single expression...
But I'd argue a lot of the cool, no nonsense attitude, that people associated with 90s Sonic, is due to this artwork.
I like seeing how official character art poses change through time and different artists.
Sonic 1: Original japanese design.
Sonic 2: Western take. Curved spines, bent legs, small shoes.
Sonic CD: Let's draw it again! But worse!
Sonic 3&K: Ehhhh... just recolour the original...
Only other changes are Shiek and the Master Sword
Shiek is dark skinned and has silver hair
Possibly unrelated to Zelda at this point, as all the other characters have near finalised designs and the story was still being rewritten
Sword is odd. It already had a design from ALTTP
Twilight Princess Link looks like he was near final design before they changed track.
His outfit also more closely resembled Ocarina of Time Link at one point.
My favourite trend in Zelda concept art is how Link often starts off as absurdly manly in early designs.
