Comics Worldwide: Poland (pt.1) Funky Koval by Maciej Parowski, Jacek Rodek and Bogusław Polch is a Polish sci-fi / detective / political fiction comic book published in Poland in the 1980s. It gained a cult following and is still recognized as one of the best Polish comics.

Comics Worldwide: Philippines (pt.1) Nestor Redondo was a Filipino comics artist best known for his work for DC, Marvel, and other American publishers in the 1970s and early 1980s. In his native country, the Philippines, he is best known for co-creating the superheroine Darna.

My bookshelf, left to right: 1. Mezolith: Stone Age Dreams and Nightmares by Ben Haggarty and Adam Brockbank. A book of beautifully illustrated stories of a small tribe from 10,000 years ago and their struggle for survival, interwoven with some ancient myths and legends.

Comics Worldwide: the Phantom shields in Papua New Guinea. Apparently the Phantom was featured on battle shields during a period of tribal wars in Papua New Guinea. By using his image on a shield, warriors hoped to capture his symbolic power and incite fear among their opponents.

Make sure you also read Safe Area Gorazde and The Fixer. I mean, all of his work is great.
Oh, and if you like that sort of real world reporting in comics I would recommend The Photographer by Lefèvre, Guibert, and Lemercier. It's a different style of art, but just as great.

by Gene Luen Yang is a intertwined tale of three seemingly unrelated characters. Jin Wang trying to fit as the only Chinese in school, Monkey King that wants to be hailed a god and Chin-Kee, the negativee Chinese stereotype.

Comics for kids that adults might like: Smile / Sisters / Guts series by Raina Telgemeier is a coming-of-age memoir about family relationships, about going through school, growing up and gathering the courage to face and conquer one's fears.
