I don't know much, but I know that if an asset doesn't work in 2-4 colors, it's not going to work in 24 colors, either!

This tiling ground texture, which will eventually represent patchy grass-and-dirt, has potential at this stage, even though it's just a 5min trackpad doodle.

Exploring more "carpet fills" in addition to the piecewise doobers. I'm starting to regret that half of this world is dead or dying because the grass, where there is grass, is looking so....cooshy? 🌱🌿

Tonight's repost: my usual stuff, but cropped so it's *just* the outfits.

I am trans and non-binary and have spent most of my life feeling “two steps behind my body.”

That’s ok, it’s nobody’s fault, and it’s getting better with time and self-reflection.

Still, you may notice a lot of my work has a melancholy vibe, sometimes implied, others explicit.

An excellent example of mixing color ramps in 's recent study of

Neither artist is likely thinking in terms of "zig-zags" - Chris points out the value of neutral ramps, but the rest is reference study, experimentation, and "practiced intuition"... https://t.co/Vcsk7wIUpb

Working on a palette which is "at least as intuitive" for brown, black and blue-black skin as it is for tan, fair, and translucently-fair skin, without turning too brassy or too ashen.

It's not easy - 32 colors also including blue and green ramps - but it's coming along.

Progress from a year ago...the basics (sharp nose, blue faux hawk) are in the very first drafts, but there’s a ton of wiggle.

The smile got smaller and the hair got fluffier.

(PS the lovely cliche brow scar has not changed, they just don’t have it at the start of the story)

is trending once again, so it's time for something a little different than my usual updates..here are some throwback pieces of mine!

(I tried to find the least-related works I could..yet somehow they all kinda qualified as by accident?)

When I was starting out, I struggled w my curls..resulting in the orange portrait (2006)

Far from perfect, but I found curls are all about balancing large, soft volumes with local shapes and highlights.

Treating them separately, working general-to-specific, is way easier.

HIH!

Of course I'm focussing on that mixed up yang energy but aggression or resentment is honestly the smallest part of what I feel.

Mostly what I've struggled with is loneliness.

When I draw from life, it is always with a strong voyeuristic aspect. I draw more backs than fonts.
