#FrescoFriday Tomb of the Dancing Women ~ c. C5th-C4th BCE.
This ancient Peucetian tomb was rediscovered in 1833. Its frescoes are one of the oldest known examples of figurative painting in Apulia. The style suggests an Etruscan influence.

#FrescoFriday gets a little bit cheeky with this gorgeous portrait of a woman (perhaps a Muse?) holding a lyre.

With our latest interview out, it’s only appropriate to celebrate the frescoes of Livia’s villa! The colours, the detail, and the sense of abundance are just stunning ✨
Augustus dies #OTD 19 August 14 CE at the ripe old age of 75.
While Tacitus Annals 1.5 alludes to Livia as implicated in his death, “some suspected foul play on the part of his wife”, natural causes after a long life in power seem far more likely.

Agamemnon and Achilles face off in this scene which captures the friction between the two described by Homer early in the Iliad.
Agamemnon sits while Achilles pulls his sword from its scabbard. The goddess Athena holds Achilles by the hair.

“Pane for the people!” This scene shows a vendor selling bread with the same distinctive shape as charred examples found in Pompeii.
Just extraordinary 🍞

Fascinating insights into wool work! One man brushes wool while the man beneath the caged dome whitens fabric.
The owl may be a symbol of Athena, who was thought to protect wool merchants.

@rogueclassicist @pompei79 @chapps @MANNapoli Certainly this discussion fits with the OP as the Nereid is clearly holding the fabric as it billows out behind - closer view for this below:

This beautiful fresco is from the triclinium (dining room) of the Villa Arianna, Stabiae.
The almost nude Nereid appears to be riding a sea horse. Together they are captured moving gracefully.
