Marie Braquemond was born in 1840. She contributed Woman in White to the 5th Exhibition, the year that Berthe Morisot showed Woman at her Toilette and Mary Cassatt showed On the Balcony. Women artists represented that year!

It's Norwegian artist Anna Ancher's birthday week. I'll be posting her work every day, starting with Woman in a a Garden. I have a feeling that Ancher treasured Norway's fleeting summers as much as we in the Pacific Northwest do. Her paintings are filled with sunlight.
