#HispanicHeritageMonth2021 is about honoring the heritage of the past while moving into the future. For example: The Mystical Marriage of St. Catherine, a small polychrome sculpture by Luisa Roldán (1690) and Marisol's mixed media work 300 hundred years later.#LatinxHeritageMonth
Gabrielle Capet, a student of Adélaïde Labille-Guiard, painted herself painting this scene of her teacher producing a painting that would earn her acceptance into the Royal Academy. So meta! Capet was born #OTD in 1761.
Lotte Laserstein painting a portrait of herself and her cat, who's had about enough. #Caturday
@princessyokoo #MaryLizzieMacomber (b. 8/21/1861), was an American who painted in the #PreRaphaelite style. Compare her Fair Rosamond (L) to Rossetti's, and you can see that she utilizes the same subject matter but her style is more subdued than Rossetti's hectic portrayal.
Anna Ancher, b. #OTD in 1859, was a founder of the Skagen, Denmark art colony. Her work showing the effects of light was influenced by Impressionism. Even her interior scenes have light pouring into them. #WomenArtists
Judith Leyster (born #OTD in 1609) had five children. Maybe that's why she was so good at capturing their joyful mischief. And maybe also why she quit painting after her marriage? Here are Laughing Children with a Cat and Boy with a Jug.
All three of these artists were portraitists. #GuiliaLama (at left) is thought to be the first woman to paint a male nude from a model. #RosalbaCarriera was in demand for flattering pastel portraits. She taught her student, @MariannaCarlevarjis, to do similar work. https://t.co/UH5dur7U7X
For #NationalPinkDay, some offerings from Lee Krasner: (from left) Desert Moon, Palingenesis, and Combat. #AbstractExpressionism
Around 1890, #MaryCassatt (b. #OTD in 1844) made a series of prints in the style of Japanese Ukiyo-e, characterized by scenes of daily life, one or two figures only, asymmetrical composition, and an elevated POV.

Eva Gonzales never exhibited with the #Impressionists, although she painted in their style. Her "Nanny & Child" resembles Berthe Morisot's "Wet Nurse with Julie" in palette and composition (down to the tosses umbrella.) 2/3
