While I'm documenting dumbass minutiae: congrats to Konami's official @/Bomberman_EN account for finally updating their profile picture. That blank white background and off-centre art were pissing me off something fierce.
Bomberman Act:Zero's file structure is seriously wonky and doesn't play nice with Noesis or QuickBMS, so I had to assemble those sprites from this mess. So, uh, if anyone's clued up on extracting XPR2 archives, get in touch! I want to poke around in this game some more.
Inside the files for Bomberman Act:Zero are sprites from Net de Bomberman, a Japan-exclusive PS2 instalment that was online-only, and is this close to lost media -- its disc has no gameplay assets! To find these unused in an Xbox 360 game is pretty wild to say the least.

Did you know? Bowser's sprite in Super Mario Bros. 3 saw three different edits across 27 years, redrawing big chunks of the sprite, and it even served as the basis of his new animations in the SMB1 portion of Super Mario All-Stars!

The pose is based on promotional art from Bomberman Land Touch 2 on Nintendo DS, though with a palette closer to the recent Super Bomberman R. The hues are deeper and his face closer to yellow than caucasian, one of SBR's quirks.
It looks a bit dodgy in close-up, but it's better than prior attempts.
It might just be the angle, but Marco looks to have his iconic banana skull in missions, but in the hub his nose and jawline shrink to something almost human. There's hope for ghoulish caricatured Fio yet.
