Anyway, Ravel's evil scheme involves buggering off to space to his Mobius System space satellite, and harvesting the T-ENG that the planet's secreting ever since the Cat-G Akrid was killed, creating an energy streamed dubbed the "スブリマトゥム".

Machine translation aside, it's at least fun to get the gist of what students are like. Rosa's never seen without her put-upon "butler". Pretty boy Chris has a rabid fan club. And using the ladies bathroom doesn't just get you beaten up, the girls stop talking to you.

Dialogue continues to be a bumpy ride. Characters are big on verbal tics and onomatopoeic nicknames, which would be a dickens to translate naturally... so the patch just doesn't bother changing them.

TUROK (MOBILE): The humble phone tie-in transforms a middling FPS into a stealth-heavy Prince of Persia, with shooting galleries to mix things up. Strangely compelling?? I had zero expectations, but it's a simple, solid little romp that makes the most of its limited hardware.

TUROK 2: SEEDS OF EVIL (GB): This ditches the exploration for something more linear, with some fun gimmick stages like riding on dinosaurs. Far more accessible than Battle of the Bionosaurs (barring the obtuse intro stage) and a smoother ride for it... but also not as memorable?

TUROK 3: SHADOW OF OBLIVION (GB): Probably the most accessible of the Game Boy titles, with the difficulty and weird hiccups toned way down. It's got a neat plot inspired by the comics, but the game's all a bit dry? The dodginess of the other games leaves a lasting impression...!

TUROK: RAGE WARS (GB): Starting with my least favourites and working my way up. Turok goes top-down, only it's stupidly difficult and makes no concessions for the tiny Game Boy screen. Easily the most miserable experience of the lot. Bumpin' boss theme, though.

I blogged a little about Metroid: Fan Mission, a fangame hub that expired a few years ago, and links to the games that survived its closure. Maybe there's a hidden gem among them?

Currently ripping sprites from Mario Tennis: Power Tour. I assume some of the stuff is unused, particularly lots of leftover prerendered graphics! They offer neat insight into how the game's pixel artists used them for reference or clean-up.
