A few sketches of last months Collared Pratincole from Blanket Nook, I didn't have the sketch book with me on the day so worked these up from photos over the following days.
I have been trying a few compostions of Puffins at sunset lately, another idea I just need more time to complete. Fingers crossed I will get to it by the weekend.
I have been working on a Corncrake painting for @YoloBirder and his #Red67 project over the last few weeks, but time is ticking by and I need to finish something off soon. I worked up some old sketches and photos into a few roughs today to help decide on the final pic.
Some Yellowhammer sketches from last week. I have been really lucky to be passing some of the last Yellowhammers in North West Ireland regularly this year. The males are in full song now and showing beautifully each time I stop.
A few Yellowhammer sketches from the last few weeks. There are still a few pairs around Inch Island, these were feeding on seed in the carpark at the Farland Bank.
Water Pipit still about this morning. Nice to see a pair of Chough also, only my second time to see them here since October. Some moulting Long-tailed ducks feeding close to shore will be even more stunning in another week.
I painted Parrot, Scottish and Two-barred Crossbill for the European Breeding Bird Atlas, it was a challenge to work on the bulk of these birds when I am only familiar with Commons.
I stumbled on a Waxwing along a busy road earlier today, but unfortunately just like my last one, I was in a rush and didn't get to spend long enjoying it. These sketches were worked up over Christmas of the previous bird I saw at the end of November.
A few recent illustrations I have been working on with Yellowhammers, ad. sum male through to juv. I am lucky to still have a few birds close to where I live now, looking forward to hearing them in the coming weeks.
