24 June 1784. Thirteen year old Edward Warren made the first, two hour two mile tethered balloon ascent in the United States, in Baltimore, Maryland. America’s first aviator volunteered when the craft proved too weak to lift its builder, Peter Carnes.
19 May 1944. First V1 flying bomb to be destroyed by being 'toppled' by the wingtip of a defending fighter, causing the missile to dive out of control, was attributed to a Supermarine Spitfire XIV, RB188/DL-K of 91 (Nigeria) Squadron, RAF, flown by Flying Officer Kenneth Collier.
23 June 1943. Oberleutnant Armin Faber of Stab III/JG2 "Richthofen" in combat over Devon with Sergeant Trejtnar of 310 Squadron. Shortly afterwards, Faber's FW190 fell intact into Allied hands when he mistakenly landed at RAF Pembrey.

15 June 1918. Maggiore Francesco Baracca shot down an Albatros DIII 153.266 in his Spad VII, his 34th and final victory. The pilot, Leutnant Sigmund von Josipovich came down unharmed in a cornfield near Olmi, San Biagio di Callalta and taken prisoner.
