25 October 1940. Leutnant Hermann Ripke of 8/JG26 falls victim to Pilot Officer Tom Sherrington of 92 Squadron above Sevenoaks, Kent.

24 October 1953. First flight of the Convair F-102 Delta Dagger (model 8-80) 52-7994 at Edwards Air Force Base. Flown by test pilot Dick Johnson. American interceptor jet aircraft. After just six flights, the aeroplane was lost due to a takeoff engine fire.

22 October 1797. First use of a silk parachute was made by Frenchman André-Jacques Garnerin (31 January 1769 - 18 August 1823) at Parc Monceau, Paris. He jumped from a hydrogen balloon at a height of approximately 3,000 feet.

14 October 1944. The seven Australian, Canadian, British and New Zealand aircrew of 514 Squadron Avro Lancaster (A-Able) disembark following a daylight operation to Duisburg.

12 October 1918. First flight of the Zeppelin-Lindau Dornier RS IV, powered by four Maybach Mb IVa engines. The German military flying boat prototype was rebuilt with a cabin for six passengers and used for flights at the Bodensee until the autumn of 1920.
