@Kneon That style gets a lot of grief, but to me it's clearly inspired by the classic fairy tale illustration of Arthur Rackham.
@EthanVanSciver What was he trying to prove with a comic page from 1987?
Did he think we wouldn't notice the phone booths and old fashioned box TV sets?
This might be why. Instead of shooting for something cool, new, or innovative, this particular publisher is following the lead of DC and Marvel, with just a manga face.
@kaiser_electric @SortaSerious @Superbatbroman Oh noes, I don't understand things so everybody must be a HATERZ
@CoryMoesta @Acearoni @LunarArchivist @stillgray @DougTenNapel We can actually put that to a test. Here's Professor X from an X-Men manga, a Justice League manga, and although Cathy's never been in a manga (afaik) we'll grab a similar office worker (OL == office lady).
One of the best-selling Marvel comics recently was a Deadpool manga.
The animated Treasure Island featuring the chad Dr Livesey also has an aerobics workout sequence. FYI
@rarebitfiend13 @LordWordfab Oh, I should mention, in case you're not familiar with the series, "monsters, drama, and action-adventure" describes Battlechasers perfectly. Monika was simply an outrageous villain.
