@ms_hurst_ @PrimarySchoolBC @one_to_read @KatieBeecroft1 @UKLaureate Also, the Stig & Tilde series. 11 of the 12 kids in my Y6 bubble have devoured all three instalments over the last few weeks.
@one_to_read I feel like I know so few! Smaug is clearly a classic. I also do love the dragon gag in Wiesner’s Three Little Pigs. #BooksNearBedtime
@rcharlesworth @RogMcDonald @TeresaCremin @smithsmm @jonnybid @son1bun @Jo_Bowers @Mat_at_Brookes @one_to_read @RS_Hargreaves @PaulWat5 @OpenUni_RfP My favourite picture book to teach in KS2 is The Journey by Francesca Sanna. It is such a poetic & accessible way in to so many conversations about moral, social & political issues. It also has a brilliant interplay between the words & pictures, so much detail #OURfPBookBlether
@one_to_read Picture books can be painful but it’s these books that are so important for showing children the complexity of the world #BooksNearBedtime
@MrsKirstBarrett @one_to_read I agree! Books like Du Iz Tak? would be impossible without pictures. Not to mention texts like Journey, Tuesday and The Arrival. A whole new layer of interpretive reading is introduced with pictures #BooksNearBedtime
Just finished reading this treasure by @BethWatersArt. I love the balance of focus between place & people (inevitable, given how interlinked they were). Simple but beautiful artwork really make you feel how sweeping the landscape is (reminded me of @williamgrill in that respect).
@PaulWat5 @FreyjaLangford @KarlDuke8 @Toriaclaire @smithsmm @one_to_read @Mat_at_Brookes @GalwayMr @RebeccaLucas @JennyHolderLiv @ClubPicturebook These are probably the picture books I’ve enjoyed teaching most to Y4/5, in case they are helpful.
@Misterbodd 31, so the 90s should be my kid TV heyday! Although, I’ve now looked up my favourite cartoons as a kid and discovered they all started in the 80s. So I’ll just have to wait for tomorrow.
@ClubPicturebook @smithsmm @PaulWat5 @KarlDuke8 @MissC_1717 @LTeacher123 @MrEagletonIan @WatsEd @rcharlesworth @RuddickRichard @jonnybid @Mat_at_Brookes Would change by the day, but let’s go for:
@LTeacher123 @ClubPicturebook @dc_litchfield @smithsmm @PaulWat5 @KarlDuke8 @one_to_read @MrS_Primary @Misterbodd @MrsKirstBarrett Yes! Love Greenling! The Dam too, the way the shards of light slice through the images is really startling. #PrimaryPicBookClub
